CLG Powers the Southeast's Logistics Future at Port of Charleston

Written by Robin Siekerman | Aug 14, 2025 9:46:15 PM

As the Southeast continues to emerge as a powerhouse in global trade, the Port of Charleston is leading the charge with bold infrastructure investments and a strategic vision for growth. South Carolina Ports is transforming Charleston into a premier gateway for global commerce—and CLG is proud to be part of that journey.

Investing in Capacity for Tomorrow's Trade

With over $3 billion in infrastructure investments underway, Charleston is building for the future. Key developments include:

  • Leatherman Terminal Expansion: A second berth will increase capacity to 2.4 million TEUs, enhancing throughput and flexibility.
  • North Charleston Terminal Upgrade: Expanded to handle 5 million TEUs, with 5,000 feet of berth space and 400 acres of terminal area.
  • Navy Base Intermodal Facility: A $400 million investment to support 1 million rail lifts annually, tripling current rail cargo capacity and streamlining inland connectivity.

These projects are designed not just to scale operations, but to create a resilient, agile port system that meets the demands of modern supply chains.

CLG Helps Connect Inland Markets with Speed

Charleston’s inland ports—Greer and Dillon—saw a 24% increase in cargo in FY2024, reflecting the growing importance of intermodal logistics. The Navy Base Intermodal Facility will directly link the port to inland hubs like Atlanta, Nashville, and Memphis, creating faster, more efficient cargo movement.

CLG’s logistics network is built to complement this growth. Our integrated services—from drayage and warehousing to inland distribution, we ensure that cargo moves seamlessly from port to final destination.

A Resilient Gateway for Global Trade

Wando Welch Terminal set a new record by handling 1.2 million containers in a single year. This operational strength aligns with CLG’s commitment to reliability and responsiveness. We understand that in logistics, consistency is key—and we’re proud to support a port that delivers on that promise.

Driving Economic Impact

SC Ports generates an $87 billion annual economic impact and supports 1 in 9 jobs in South Carolina. As industries like automotive, retail, and food & beverage continue to invest in the region, CLG and SC Ports remain trusted partners in enabling supply chain success.

At CLG, we believe logistics is more than movement—it’s momentum. The Port of Charleston is building the future of trade, and we’re proud to help drive it forward.
